Alright, I'm going to let you guys in on another "insider" secret. We (Destination) will be awarding our first annual Trip Legend Award this April to encourage and reward audacious travel adventures by honoring the most legendary trip of the previous year, inspiring others to explore beyond the standard conventions of recreational travel.
We researched the web and read numerous travel stories and have decided that this year's award will be given to Zach Levenburgh and Graham French of who, in 2006, set foot on a voyage to ; the longest moped trip in history. Their five month, 13,000 mile trip to the southern most tip of South America at speeds of around 30 miles per hour is a testament that travel is not solely about the destination.
So you are probably wondering why I am telling you this a
month ahead of time… turns out, Zach and Graham shot video of their entire trip
last year in hopes of producing a movie documentary. Their documentary dreams
were crushed after a mugging in the last 48 hours of their trip when their last
two weeks of footage was stolen along with a passport, check card, digital DV
camera and many other things.
So Zach and Graham are leaving today and flying to Buenos Aires with their mopeds and they will be spending the next three weeks shooting the footage to complete their film. They will be back at the end of the month and plan to release the documentary this summer along with a photo book.
They have dedicated 6 months of their time on this project and in speaking with them you can truly see their desire to share their trip with the world. Their determination will not allow this movie to not be made and is a huge testament to fulfilling ones dreams and making awesome things happen. In order to hit the area in the appropriate season and time frame, they are leaving the country with very few funds and they are reaching out to their future viewers for help in funding the rest of a movie not yet finished. If you would like to help them complete their dream, they have set up a PayPal donation account here.
If you have a travel story that you feel is label or Trip Legend Award worthy, send it to us at info[at]destination-nation[dot]com.
And here is their just released movie trailer:
Sometimes, when you're overcome by illness and have no other choice but to spend your day bundled up and sipping soup. You might also spend that sick day watching a lot of television like I did last evening. I was pleasantly suprised that the Travel Channel has an amazing new show "Bizare Foods with Andrew Zimmerman". The show seems like a brain child between the Travel Channel and the Food Network, following Zimmerman to a regional location and watching him visit interesting sites and eating even more interesting foods.
Not all the food is one the Fear Factor vibe some of it is simple as those little shrimp chips you see in asian markets and wondered to yourself "people eat this?". The show focuses on the region featured foods but also shows some of the regions interesting sites. Zimmerman took viewiers to an underground river that reminded of yet another product carried by destination-nation (the devil's icebox hairpaste).
For more info on the show visit the travel channel website here:Bizarre foods website.
For more information on Zimmerman and his story is very interesting here:article on zimmerman.

Two short weeks after I got my new computer last year, I was in L.A. traveling on business. After a long day of work, I went back to my room at The Standard Hotel, grabbed a overpriced, three dollar bottle of Orange Crush out of the mini bar and sat down near the desk to do some work. Sitting about 2-3 feet away from my new computer, I open the soda and it makes a bee line out of the bottle for the keyboard of my laptop. A mad dash for a towel ensued and in the end, I was without a working mousepad. The day it happened it was much more dramatic… my new computer, it was too late to go out and buy a mouse, I had a bunch of work I needed to get done…. All the usual suspects.
Since that night, my laptop has obviously never been the same. Something is lost when you have to unwind a mouse cord and plug it in every time you want to use the computer. In my L.A. desperation, I bought the first mouse I could find but recently I have been looking for something more portable.
I came across the MoGo Mouse X54 which is a business-card sized, 3-button Bluetooth-enabled mouse that stores and recharges neatly inside your laptop computer's ExpressCard/54 Card slot. MoGo Mouse X54 features a patent-pending, sleek design, and the benefit of state-of-the-art ExpressCard technology. The handy center scroll pad lets you scan documents with one-finger ease.
The X54 will not be available until June 2007 - in the meantime, they have a two button version available.
With all the hub-bub TSA puts us through, getting through security can be a royal pain. Gadgetduck.com has come up with a patented Scanner Bag™ designed to make that security debacle a little easier. In short, Scanner Bag™ is an at-the-ready stuff holder for all of that stuff you have to take off and take out of your pockets at security. No longer will you have to rush to find one of those plastic dishes or somewhere else to stash it all for its ride down the scanner belt. And, when your stuff emerges from the scanner at the other end, you won't have to rush to put everything back where it should be.
One word: brilliant.
Before you travel, iTunes has a whole section of podcasts devoted to language. Download Spanish, French, Chinese, Japanese, Russian or Italian for free... by the time you arrive at your destination, you should at least know the basics.
We all know airplanes are breeding grounds for sickness. There is nothing worse than getting to your destination with the stranger in seat 12C's wicked head cold.
Rescue comes in the form of Flight 001 No Cooties Spray. This four pack travel spray is a blend of essential oils designed to aid in cleansing and purifying the immediate environment when dispersed in the air. Its anti-bacterial properties are effective against airborne microorganisms so the only thing you have to worry about having when you get off the plane is your luggage.
I have wanderlust really bad right now and unfortunately am too busy working on all the cool stuff we have going on at Destination to do anything about it right now. So my remedy will be writing about travel tips. Please, if you have any good ones of your own, send them my way!

According to the BBC, research has found that shaving less than once a day could increase a men's risk of having a stroke by about 70%.
The link between needing to shave infrequently and stroke risk emerged from a 20-year study of over 2,000 men aged 45-59. At the time the study began, in the late 70s, the prevailing trend was to be clean-shaven, so infrequent grooming is unlikely to be due to a desire for designer stubble. Researchers from the University of Bristol say it is more likely to be because a man needed to shave infrequently, due to having less testosterone in their bodies.
They were asked about their lifestyle, including shaving habits, then followed to see if they suffered strokes or other diseases.
Men with beards were not included in the study. The study also found men who shaved less regularly were at a higher risk of suffering a heart attack and less likely to be married.
See what good grooming can do for you?
I went to lunch today and noticed the waiter had the worst bitten fingernails ever. I guess nail bitters don't realize this but people DO notice your nails. Like every other habit, its a hard habit to break. My tip? In the morning and throughout the day, rub what you have of fingernails across a bar of soap. Since nail bitting is often an unconscious habit, the taste of soap will often be just enough to make you stop.
